Volunteer Sally lives in Norfolk Park, Sheffield. A volunteer with Free Cakes for Kids Sheffield for two years, we asked Sally why she enjoys volunteering. "As a child I always got a home made birthday cake from my mum and still do so at the age of 34! It's nice to do that for a child who isn't as fortunate as myself. Plus I love to bake. Kath Wilson, 64 was brought up on the Birley Estate in Sheffield. One of the earliest volunteers at Free Cakes for Kids Sheffield, Kath regularly bakes and helps out at cake baking workshops across the city. Recipe: Bara Brith
Volunteer Gill Hughes makes the most delicious Welsh fruit cake - Bara Brith. Gill has kindly shared the recipe she uses below. Enjoy! Ingredients 1 kg Mixed Fruit 5 cups self-raising flour 2 cups water 8oz butter or soft margarine (I use Bertolli) 2 large eggs Method Put fruit, water and butter/fat into a saucepan – stir and bring to boil – do not leave to boil for more than a few seconds though Put pan to one side until the mixture goes cold.
