Meet volunteer Kath

Kath with her latest cake - a digger for a little boy.

Kath Wilson, 64 was brought up on the Birley Estate in Sheffield. One of the earliest volunteers at Free Cakes for Kids Sheffield, Kath regularly bakes and helps out at cake baking workshops across the city.

Kath said, "I've been baking nearly from the beginning of Sheffield Cakes for Kids. My daughter-in-law heard about the organisation and thought that I would be interested, she was right. I love the idea that you can do something as simple and as pleasurable as baking a birthday cake and it can make a real difference to a young person and/or their family. I think that my creativity and my confidence have increased because I recently made a very pink 'Victoria's Secret' cake for my 16 year old granddaughter, complete with frilly knickers on the top."

Kath is a very active volunteer across Sheffield and we love having her as part of the Free Cakes Sheffield team. "I now have 5 gorgeous grandchildren to bake for, but still find time to learn art, teach sewing to adults with learning disabilities and sing with a community group - it's a good job I'm retired!"

We asked Kath about her favourite cake - and we're going to share the recipe as it sounds delicious!

"My favourite cake is a bit weird but wonderful - a parsnip, white chocolate and cardamon cake with lime buttercream."

Meet more of our volunteers and find out how you can help.
